WHAT WE DO

Engineering, Building and
Delivering Egypt's Corridors

Al Zahraa General Contracting is a single-discipline roads-and-bridges main contractor executing complex civil infrastructure under the supervision of Egypt's ministries and public authorities — continuously since 1995.

02 OUR APPROACH

Our approach to infrastructure delivery

Since our founding in 1995, Al Zahraa General Contracting has built its reputation on a single principle: complete accountability from ground-break to ribbon-cutting. We do not act as a coordinator between sub-contractors — we self-perform the critical path of every project using our own engineers, supervisors and owned heavy fleet.

Our engineering teams are embedded on-site from the day the survey crew stakes the first control point to the day the bituminous wearing course cools under traffic. Every phase — subgrade preparation, aggregate base compaction, structural concrete, bridge deck forming and asphalt surfacing — is managed by Al Zahraa personnel holding direct accountability to the client authority.

This integrated model reduces co-ordination risk, preserves quality at every construction hold point, and gives our clients a single point of contact for schedule, budget and certification — the combination that has kept us on the approved vendor lists of Egypt's ministries and public works authorities for three consecutive decades.

05 CORE DISCIPLINE

Road & Bridge Construction

Our company delivers comprehensive services for road and bridge projects — from planning and design coordination through structural construction to the final asphalt wearing course. Every kilometre we build is self-performed: our own engineers, our own foremen and our own plant, working to the specifications issued by Egypt's public works authorities.

We have been executing roads and bridges on behalf of the General Authority for Roads & Bridges, the Ministry of Housing's Central Agency for Reconstruction and the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces since 1995. In three decades we have built and upgraded highways, dual carriageways and bridge structures across multiple governorates.

  • Earthworks, subgrade preparation and proof-rolling
  • Sub-base and base course gradation and compaction
  • Asphalt binder and wearing-course paving to tolerances
  • Reinforced-concrete bridge decks, piers and abutments
  • Bearings, expansion joints and deck waterproofing
  • Traffic-diversion phasing and road-safety systems

Why it matters: A single contractor accountable for the full pavement stack — from subgrade to surface — removes the layer-by-layer disputes that delay certification. The client gets one sign-off, not six.

06 CONTROL & ACCOUNTABILITY

Project Management

Our project management services are a cornerstone of our success in road and bridge projects. We ensure that every phase — from mobilisation through construction to handover — is controlled against the contract programme, the approved budget and the authority-mandated quality plan.

Al Zahraa's project managers are civil engineers who have spent years on the site, not in a back-office. They hold direct authority over crew allocation, material procurement and subcontractor (if any) co-ordination, and they report daily to the client's resident engineer. This gives owners real-time visibility without management overhead.

  • Contract baseline scheduling with critical-path analysis
  • Earned-value tracking and monthly progress reporting
  • Resource levelling and fleet-utilisation optimisation
  • Risk register and change-order management
  • Authority liaison and permit co-ordination
  • Defects-liability management and final account preparation

Why it matters: A managed project does not mean a slower one. Early identification of float erosion, proactive re-sequencing and on-site decision authority consistently bring Al Zahraa projects in on or ahead of the agreed completion date.

07 LONG-RANGE PROGRAMME

Strategic Planning

Our strategic planning service lays the groundwork for successful road and bridge projects by aligning long-term vision with actionable strategies. Before a single machine moves, our planning engineers study corridor options, environmental constraints, utility-crossing risks and phasing logic to produce a programme that is achievable — not aspirational.

We work closely with client authorities to translate national infrastructure mandates into project-level work breakdown structures, procurement windows and resource-deployment calendars. The output is a living plan that survives the first contact with site conditions and still delivers on the promised programme.

  • Corridor option analysis and route-selection reports
  • Phased programme development aligned to funding tranches
  • Resource and plant-mobilisation scheduling
  • Environmental and utility-conflict pre-assessment
  • Stakeholder co-ordination with contracting authorities
  • Value-engineering review prior to tender or mobilisation

Why it matters: A programme built on accurate data — not optimistic assumptions — prevents the acceleration orders, abortive works and extension-of-time claims that inflate the final cost of poorly planned infrastructure projects.

08 PLANS INTO ROADS

Project Execution

Our project execution phase is where strategic plans come to life. We focus on transforming approved blueprints into robust infrastructure with precision and efficiency — using self-performed construction crews working under direct Al Zahraa engineering supervision, with no critical-path work delegated.

From subgrade trimming and proof-rolling through aggregate base compaction, structural concrete and bridge-deck forming to the final bituminous wearing course, each construction layer is checked at its designated hold point by our quality team before the next layer is authorised. The result is infrastructure that meets the design life from day one.

  • Subgrade preparation, lime or cement stabilisation
  • Sub-base and crushed-stone base course placement
  • Reinforced-concrete works: piers, decks, culverts
  • Hot-mix asphalt binder and wearing-course paving
  • Bridge bearings, joints and waterproofing installation
  • Line markings, safety barriers and drainage structures

Why it matters: Self-performance means one quality standard, one safety culture and one chain of command — eliminating the interface disputes between sub-contractors that are the leading cause of road-project defects.

09 BUILT-IN, NOT BOLTED ON

Quality Assurance

Our commitment to quality is the backbone of every road and bridge project we undertake. We adhere to stringent quality control measures at every stage of construction — not as an after-the-fact inspection layer, but as an integral part of how we build.

Quality at Al Zahraa is enforced at each construction hold point: before a layer is covered, our QC team confirms that the compaction density, aggregate gradation, pavement thickness and surface regularity meet the contract specification. Nothing progresses until the records are signed.

  • In-situ compaction testing (sand-cone, nuclear gauge)
  • Aggregate gradation and Los Angeles abrasion testing
  • Asphalt core extraction and Marshall stability verification
  • Bridge structural concrete cube and cylinder sampling
  • Layer-thickness verification and surface regularity checks
  • Hold-point inspection records and non-conformance reporting

Why it matters: A road that passes every hold-point inspection does not need a defects-liability programme to carry the load the designer intended. It simply performs — on year one and on year ten.

10 OWNED FLEET & WORKSHOP

Machinery & Equipment

Our company boasts a state-of-the-art fleet of heavy machinery specifically designed to streamline road and bridge construction. Every machine in the Al Zahraa fleet is owned outright — not hired for a project — and maintained by our permanent workshop team to production-ready standard before mobilisation.

Owned plant gives Al Zahraa a critical commercial and operational advantage: we can mobilise faster than competitors dependent on external hire, we absorb no hire-rate volatility, and we maintain the machinery according to our own preventative-maintenance schedule rather than a rental company's convenience.

  • Asphalt pavers and tandem vibratory rollers
  • Motor graders and pneumatic-tyre rollers
  • Hydraulic excavators and wheeled loaders
  • Mobile crushing and screening plants
  • Asphalt batching and concrete batching plants
  • In-house maintenance workshop and spare-parts store

Why it matters: An owned, maintained fleet removes the single most common cause of road-project delays — plant breakdown. Al Zahraa's workshop team ensures machines are repaired on-site, not shipped to a hire company's depot.
